IMQS’s success is attributable to the fact that it has strategically partnered with specialist engineering companies, and in doing so has merged cutting edge engineering services with specialist GIS based Asset Management Software, resulting in a market leading Integrated asset management information system.

IMQS was established in the late 90’s by two of South Africa's leading Civil Engineering firms: GLS Consulting whose primary business is the analysis, planning and management of water-related systems, and V&V Consulting whose primary business is the design of new roads, upgrading, maintenance and rehabilitation of existing roads as well as the design, implementation and upgrading of municipal infrastructures.

IMQS was founded on the premise that the need for detailed management reporting dealing with infrastructure assets, would grow rapidly and that simple alpha numeric reporting would not suffice given breadth and depth of data available. IMQS was therefore conceived as geospatial reporting tool to support the asset infrastructure management industry.
Initially, IMQS was developed to report on GLS and V&V’s core products and services but has evolved to report on multiple asset classes, from detailed component level information to high level management information.

IMQS is marketed as a desktop GIS based infrastructure asset management software solution. It has been developed and deployed in South Africa but has customers in the rest of Africa including Namibia, Algeria, Ghana and Libya. In total IMQS has 50 Customers, 800+ users and is deployed most of SA’s Municipalities. IMQS has offices in Pretoria and Stellenbosch.
