Leon Geustyn:

Leon Geustyn is a co-founder (1989) and director of GLS Inc Consulting Civil Engineers as well as software development companies IMQS and GLS Engineering Software. He obtained BEng (Civil), MEng and PhDEng degrees from the University of Stellenbosch, the latter including one year research and course work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, USA.

Leon has for the past 17 years been the project leader for the completion of water and sewer system analysis and planning for several municipalities ranging from small towns to large cities in southern Africa, including Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Buffalo City, Windhoek, the City of Cape Town and a number of municipalities in the Western Cape Province. He was the project leader for the establishing of a water demand management strategy for each of the towns in the Western Cape Province.

Leon was also responsible for the specification IMQS as a management information system to be applied in the field of water and sanitation planning, operation and management.


Rob Knight:

Rob has a BSc from WITS and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh. Rob Joined IMQS in October 2007, initially as a consultant and then as managing director in July 2008, having spent the previous 15 years working in the UK. Rob’s career has always involved systems development initially in the Asset (Financial) Management Industry and later for a large Industrial distribution business, all of which were based in London, UK.

Prior to joining IMQS, Rob held the position of eCommerce Director at Premier Farnell Plc and was responsible for driving innovative change through the development and implementation of commercially focused, people and technology related strategies. As part of the Group’s leadership team Rob played a vital role setting the company’s eCommerce Strategy which included the design and development of a Group wide eCommerce platform, rolled out to 18 counties and 8 different languages. Rob was responsible for driving the organisational change required to support the growth of eCommerce within the business with the specific goal of achieving an eCommerce leadership position in Europe. This culminated in the winning the Best European eBusiness award for the industry in 2006.

Albie Hanekom:

Albie’s passion for management systems and systems integration is reflected in his career which initially saw him design, specify and deploy management information systems for Denel, Eskom and the SANDF after completing his B Com (Inf) at the University of Pretoria.

Albie joined the V&V group during 1995 as Information Technology manager where he initiated the design, development and implementation of the V&V Integrated Road Management System. This system formed the basis for IMQS and is currently being utilised for the maintenance of nearly 60% of SA’s road networks.
In January 2000, Albie became the technical director for IMQS and has since then completed various infrastructure management projects successfully for clients such as the Algeria Ministry of Town Planning (Setif & Ouargla), Libya Department of Transport, South African National Roads Agency, the Namibian Roads Authority, National Road Safety Council, City Of Cape Town, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality, Buffalo City Municipality, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and City Of Tshwane.
Currently, Albie specializes in asset infrastructure management system design and system integration through utilizing solid IT principles and a practical approach to delivering state-of-the art user-friendly solutions.


Willem Pretorius:

Willem Pretorius studied civil engineering at the University of Pretoria and is a registered professional engineer (Pr Eng), a registered professional construction Project Manger (Pr CPM) and a project management professional (PMP). Willem’s 15 years of high level involvement with the Institution of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa (IMESA) as well as 10 years in-house experience of local and metropolitan government followed by 11years of consulting engineering mainly to the local government sector, positions him well to deliver excellent products and services to municipalities and private sector clients alike.

Willem initiated the Traffic Surveillance System, Public Transport System and the Project Control System and is constantly busy with the development of systems that will support local government in the effective management of their infrastructure. He is currently involved with the development of the project prioritisation system as well as the Electrical management system. In his spare time, Willem is a dedicated fly fisherman and also forms part of the Western Province Fly fishing team. He is also the manager of the South African junior fly fishing team.
